Mick's Metaphor of the Week

Interviewee on The World at One suggested that George Osborne, as an inexperienced Chancellor, was '...on a very steep learning curve and he fell off.'

I don't know why but in my mind it isn't a climbing metaphor. It is a slope but not sheer. Do you spin off? Fall back? Slip back?

You can't fall off a curve.
