Part of Advent is not knowing. We know that we are expecting Christmas and when. We don't know when the deeper truth of the final culmination of all things will be. Non-Christian readers may like to see that moment simply as their eventual demise; Christian readers will be anticipating the return of the one who is light, water, bread and truth in all his, and their, metaphorical wonder and beauty.
Some of us learned today that the point at which you are ready to start learning is not when you don't know what you don't know but when you know what you don't know. Known unknowns. Conscious incompetence.
We don't know for sure how we will end. We don't know for sure what will happen after that. But we know that we don't know and maybe Advent is a good season to start, if not learning, at least considering.
