Bjork

Just listened to a tune of hers on a free CD with this month's Q. Sounded like Anthony of Anthony and the Johnsons was dueting. A perfect match? Can anyone see the point? Both whiny, depressing, atonal. I could go on. Fans out there. Explain please.

You should listen to her first album "Debut". That's quite happy and tuneful, with both quiet still moments and faster dancier tracks.

amazon.com has a few samples.

More recent albums, such as "Medula" are a bit more challenging, but are good once you get into them as I previously wrote on my blog.

Steve steve steve steve.

Bjork has a great talent for sound. She's extremely dynamic in her singing, a very original delivery. Check out her Medula album in 5.1 surround if you have the chance- it's clever, creative pushing her own boundaries stuff, and without 5.1 it's still an inventive challenging sound. The sounds she pulls together are quirky, sure not a 100% hit every tune but always characterful. I think she's got an ability to change the emotional quality of a word as she's singing it, so expressive and total is her commitment. Check out the sounds on tunes like Hyperballad as well- a fantastic sonic landscape, great crafting of the sounds around the tune. She had a compilation released a few years ago, a white covered album which is a top place to start.

Not sure I'd describe her as atonal particularly. In any case isn't atonality sometimes the sharpest tool available to say what needs to be said?

By the way Jesus on wheels is going to Paris on Wednesday. Sorry but he didn't make it to Russia as was originally intended cos I got pneumonia and couldn't go, but all fine now and pictures will follow.

Sorry, I remain unconvinced....

Until someone proves that Christianity is wrong and I come back as a dolphin I will not enjoy Bjork.

I think Bjork is great when she is in Iceland - ie out of earshot.

Erm... takes a genius to recognise a genius, I guess. Bjork has an amazing voice. I love it when she screams. Haven't listened to her recent album but I heard some tracks on Holland or something which I thought were cool - I like a bit of tongue in cheek. Titter ye not, Mrs.
