Eurovision 2

It is clear that the aim of any incoming Prime Minister should be to win the Eurovison Song Contest. Make no mistake this is a poll. It is a popularity test. Being able to choose a song is by and large irrelevant to the outcome.

My predictions were good but not good enough. France, Germany, Spain and the UK did all come in the bottom 6 but the bottom four had to welcome Ireland (also in Western not Eastern Europe of course) and Lithuania whose song was such a total turkey even in this Bernard Matthews of a competition that no-one could bring themselves to vote for it out of neighbourhood loyalty.

Even Andorra opted out of supporting Spain. Terry Wogan said that for that, 'Andorra won't exist tomorrow.'

None of the Western European nations got through the semi-finals. As Tel put it, 'It's been a wonderful evening - not musically of course.'
