Just a quick post to sing the praises of a couple of movies you may have missed. These two had very brief runs in cinema but are now available on DVD.
Firstly Brick. This is a lovely American noir shot in a curiously deserted high school about a tougher than you imagine young student trying to find out how his ex girlfriend died. Nice performances, low budget and a story that works.
Secondly Once Upon a Time in the Midlands. An ensemble cast - Ricky Tomlinson, Rhys Ifans, Kathy Burke and Robert Carlisle play out a slightly-more-complicated-than-usual love triangle in seedy Nottingham pursued by Glasgow gangsters and overshadowed by daytime TV everywhere. Laughed out loud at least four times. Set with a spaghetti western soundtrack.
Both these have redeemed the day off ironing in the afternoon experience.

I was sceptical going into Brick that they could really pull off a real noir set in an American high school, but they definitely did ... it's the best high-school I've seen since Election
Ricky Tomlinson and Robert Carlisle in Nottingham. Sounds unmissable
