Football Post 6

The Italy - USA match had three sendings off including a cheek-bone-shattering elbowing that left Brian McBride bloodied and bruised but it wasn't the best foul of the match. Neither were any of the fouls that contributed to the USA's two dismissals. The pundits missed it. No-one else I have spoken to noticed. The referee and assistant missed it.

Italy's opening goal was scored by an Italian 'escaping his marker.' The commentators blamed Pope, the USA central defender, for this. Not so.

Look at the replay and the melee out of which the scorer broke. One of the other Italian forwards has Pope in a vice-like grip. Clever. Sneaky. Against the spirit of the game. Italian. Glad they only drew.
