Cycling

And while I'm on sport, yesterday afternoon, in between post-Easter Sunday lunch snoozing, I watched a competition from the World Cycling Championships called a Madison. It was on BBC2's Sunday Grandstand.

This seemed to involved tag cycling between 18 teams of 2 with mini-prizes every 20 laps for a sprint finish and bonus points for getting a lap ahead of everyone else. It lasted for ever. At one stage someone said, 'We rejoin this with 120 laps to go.' Really.

At no point could I tell who was winning, leading or why? The commentator's excitement bore no resemblance to the screen action. Can anyone explain the rules?
