Metaphor Watch

Giles Fraser on Radio 4 just now:

'It's come like a bolt from the blue and we're all trying to digest it ... it's not pie in the sky.'

So, the news is that the Roman Catholic church is going to be accommodating to those who will leave the Church of England over women bishops. The news has come like a tasty, food-like lightning strike which we have swallowed. We have discovered one thing it isn't. So what does it taste like? And does this bring to mind inter-church relations as a giant food fight?

A food fight might be the best way to sort out our differences. After all, we've been trying theology for centuries and it doesn't seem to be helping. We should have an advantage: I'm sure English pork pies are much more effective weapon than Italian pasta.

What a great idea, dmk!

if you arrange it, let us know so we can turn up...

only trouble is

I suspect that about 15 'sides' will turn up and it'll be dead difficult to work out what to throw where....

Since many of the rows seem to be about the eucharist - who can take it, celebrate it, etc a food fight seems entirely appropriate.
