Smell That

May has hope, expectation, two bank Holidays and my birthday. It hasn't yet been a bad summer but winter is gone. Clear winner in the Favourite month competition.

Today the early morning sun seems low. The garden has a red tinge. It's chilly. There's a vague smell of rotting on the breeze. Yeah. It's autumn. Fantastic. Welcome to September. It's my second-favourite month. September is action-packed, full of new programmes, everyone is around once again, Saturdays are reclaimed from the wedding season, West Brom are not yet without a prayer and it all smells of England. Inhale deeply my friends. It's gonna be a good month.

There's a rumour you're going to sign someone called Donk.

Hurrah for September.

Mr Gnome shares your enthusiasm for the ninth month.

More 'New Year' than, er, New Year.

Fresh starts, back to school, a cooler clarity to the sunshine, optimism - all tinged with bonfire smoke and a hint of melancholy to accompany the 'mists and mellow fruitfulness'....

Yikes - we're getting carrioed away.

Mr G's least favourite month?

Sorry, Feb. Even a spirit as buoyantly optimistic as Mr G's finds you a bit of a trial.

How kind of the calendarists to make you so short.
