Cold Days 1-5

Today the thoughts and ramblings of a seeker after a cold remedy. Based on the Dave Gorman idea of living according to his horoscope for a few weeks I have decided to take everyone's advice about colds to see if it makes the slightest difference. This is Steve Tilley's important medical experiment. But wait.

Let us travel back to a week ago. Thursday lunchtime, December 2nd in the Cask and Bottle. After two pints and a cheap lunch I stood to leave when this guy nearby sneezed on me. Not just achhoo, but a-bloody-choo with bells on it. And I knew. Like the moment after the car accident when I was 14 and realised as I spat out the blood I would spend the rest of my life without front teeth, I knew that the next seven to fourteen days were going to be needing major rescheduling.

Saturday night at a house-warming party the dry throat cut in. Sunday morning I needed a lot of water to get through the sermon. I usually need a drink to get through a sermon but that is when others are preaching. Today it was me.

Went out to lunch afterwards and the combination of red-wine and conversation kept me feeling a little better until evening.

Since then I have had a gallon of pineapple juice (it reduces mucus), paracetemol with codeine (the ordinary ones aren't good enough) a lemon for breakfast (Wednesday - recommended), Tescos cold remedy with paracetemol, hot honey and lemon drinks (the most soothing thing in the world) several hot baths and have survived to complete the last Alpha talk (Wednesday night) and today have cancelled everything.

I am now on holiday for ten days or so. Run out of handkerchiefs and bought paper tissues. Do send any ideas. More later.
