How do you avoid being a one-person show in the summer? It's kind of rhetorical because I quite like being a one-person show and hate endless phoning round to ask people to do things at a time of year when the answer is either 'I'm going to be away' or 'I'm not coming to that.'
So at our monthly St Paul's night, which is a prayer meeting with a meal at the beginning, I:
Organised it
Shopped for the food
Prepared the food
Prepared the song sheet and handouts (got help with typing and photocopying)
Put out the tables
Hosted
Practiced and played piano
Spoke
Lead and planned the prayer time
Locked up
As I carried four heavy bags of left-over food and serving bowls back to my home I discovered that instead of putting the paper from the evening in the large, red recycling box, the kind people of St Paul's had put all my belongings in it. This included the church emergency phone which someone else was meant to take off me last night.
I did have three lovely helpers to put out the food and folks were very good about washing up and tidying the room, but it felt like a lot of responsibility for one person. Still, 34 people came to pray on an August Wednesday night, which is cool.
Today I am getting Broadband.
