Everyone on my staff team at church has gone on holiday (most of them told me first) with the exception of our admirable secretary who keeps the paper show on the road. Yesterday I ended up doing everything at two services (one an all-age) and leading and presiding in the evening. I know that there are grown-up clergy out there who have ten shows to keep on the road but in a large evangelical church (for an August Sunday morning we still had 200 in) it is quite draining. Avoided the post-evening service pint and spent the last hour of the day sitting on the patio talking to Liz and drinking wine. Which was nice.
Holiday Club next week looms. Not enough bookings. Church building work continues. Needs to be finished by Sunday for a wedding.
