That nice Mr Johnson who does all the work at church when things break, told me that you couldn't get small-bore drainpipe any more. He put me on his list for a complete drainpipe replacement in August 2003. This is the same drain-pipe a section of which has recently been stolen.
January 2004 he said he'd do it soon.
May 2004 he said he'd do it in a fortnight.
August 2004 I sent him an anniversary card.
September 2004 job becomes more urgent now the bottom section has been stolen. My friend John calls. 'Hello Steve-0 it's John-o'. He finds this amusing. He agrees to do the job.
John-o visits three DIY places and finds two appropriate lengths of small-bore pipe which he fits, while I hold the steps, in 30 minutes. The cost is £12 for materials and the labour is free as he still owed me for a gig ticket from last year. Result.
Sorry Mr J. You lost the business.
