Candle Colours

I've had a lot of people ask me about the tradition of having a rose candle for the third Sunday of advent. With a church that meets in a catholic school we often find a clash of traditions. There is a good little article here. Nothing to do with Mary then (for a change).

    We used to light the pink one for Advent 3. gaudete Sunday. Hold back that urge to sign in a Steeleye Span sort of fashion.

    There's a similar relaxation on 'Laetare Sunday', the fourth Sunday of Lent, when rose coloured vestments may be worn, I believe.
